Getting the house ready + sewing

This week through Sunday we are getting the house ready for the new floor! I started packing up stuff on shelves last night, and Chase started experimenting with pulling up the carpet in the hallway. I took some before pictures (even though I already took down a lot of knick-knacks):

The flooring will be here on Thursday, and has to acclimate to our house, so Chase wants to get the hallway carpet up by tomorrow night so it has a place to sit. Then through the weekend we have to get the rest of the carpet up, the tile in the entryway, and the double layer of sticky-back tiles in the kitchen. Installation starts Monday.

And *I* want to go to the Star Wars night roller derby double header Saturday night. If we can squeeze it in.

I actually got a decent bit of sewing on Queen Aelsa in. I went back and cut out some backing for the bodice pieces out of lining so they won’t stretch, got all of those pieces sewn back together and the skirt re-attached. Ran out of bobbin as I was trying to go through and finish sewing the skirt pieces together all the way down (I only did them about 5 in. in originally, since I wasn’t sure where & how many skirt splits I wanted).

So here it is as of last night, with the chiffon over-dress pieces just pinned on top:

Beginning the outer layers of the chiffon dress - just got the panels cut and pinned on.

Tonight I want to get those chiffon pieces sewn together, get it attached to the base dress, and start inserting the lining. Here’s a closer shot that shows how the sparkliness of the base dress shows through the chiffon:

Just a close-up shot of how the sparkley velvet of the under-dress shows through the chiffon. I like it.

I’m thinking – provided I can dig up enough white chiffon to finish the dang thing – I could be totally done with the sewing for this costume in two weeks. Which would be nice, since it’s for Memphis Comics Expo in June. I just need to scrape up enough money to afford the wig and extensions I’ll need.
